Kindness Week Schedule of Events

ALL WEEK           

  • The Westborough Public Library will offer kindness-related titles and displays.

  • The Westborough Public Schools’ “Free Hugs and Kindness Van” will travel throughout Westborough bringing hugs and kindness to community members.

  • a “Kindness Champion in our Community” at various businesses in town (Elsie Kaye Glassworks, Jenny Boston, Midstrong, Mooyah, Tatnuck, BORO Sugar Shack, White Cottage, YMCA)

  • The BORO Sugar Shack will create a “Wall of Sweet Sentiments” – visit the BORO Sugar Shack during Kindness Week and leave a “sweet sentiment” post-it note to record something sweet that was done for you, or you did for others.  Participants will receive a special treat from the Sugar Shack!  Store hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Kindness Week from 11am-4pm.

 

Sunday, March 29th

  • Unitarian Universalist Congregational Society of Westborough’s Sunday Service will focus on the “Wisdom of Kindness”; 10:30am

  •  ***“Kickoff to Kindness Week” event at the Mill Pond School from 2-5pm*** 

  •  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will host “Storytelling Church” Worship and Dinner at 6pm.

 

Monday, March 30th

  • The Westborough Public Library will host a drop in “Kindness Craft” from 10-11am and 6-8pm

  • The Core Connection will offer free 30-minute Pilates Reformer Machine demo sessions in their Westborough studio for participants of all fitness levels as a “kindness to self” initiative. 10:30am-12:30pm 

  • Learning Express Toys will host a free kindness-related story and craft at 11am.

  • Miss Tanya’s Nursery School will host a “Kindness Concert with Mr. Kim” at 1pm at the Nursery School (in the lower level of the Unitarian Universalist Church)

  • Yummy Mummy Bakery will offer an afternoon of mini sweet treats for sharing, available for free at the shop on West Main St, from 2-5pm (for the first 200 people)

 

Tuesday, March 31st

  • Pastoral Counseling Center will offer a video and discussion titled “The Magic of Kindness” for adults in the Congregational Church, 10-11am. Light refreshment included.

  • The New England Music Academy and the Westborough Public Library will host a “Kindness Edition” of Music for Munchkins at the WPL (Children’s Dept) at 10:30am.

  • Westborough Council on Aging/Senior Center will host  “Bring a Friend to Lunch Day,” at 12 noon.  Reservations must be made and paid for in advance, by noon on Friday, March 27th.  $6 for a pair of people, or $5 for a single person

  • Armstrong Kids CARE – “Planting Buddies” at the Highlands; 3:30-4:30pm (closed event)

  • Board and Brush event – Make & Take Walk-in workshop to create a “Choose Kindness” sign, 6:30-7:30pm

 

Wednesday, April 1st  

  • Westborough Connects’ Chalk the Walks of Westborough Day, supported by the Westborough Women’s Club.  Meet at a specified location where chalk will be provided, or chalk your own neighborhood!

  • The Westborough Police Department will host “Coffee with a Cop” at Red Barn Coffee from 9-10:00am. 

  • Release Well-Being Center will host a free Kindness Meditation from 3:30-4pm.

  • The Westborough Public Library will host a “Kindness-Themed” Pajama Storytime in the Children’s Dept. at 7pm.

  • St. Stephens Church ecumenical service will focus on the theme of kindness with light refreshments following; 7pm

 

Thursday, April 2nd

  • WSLI/Armstrong Kids CARE Spring Greening Pre-sorting Event, 3-4pm (closed event)

 

Friday, April 3rd

  • Free community viewing of the film “Abominable” at the Mill Pond School at 6:30pm. Doors open at 6:15.  The Westborough Women’s Club will host a collection drive the benefit the Westborough Food Pantry.  Specific items needed include cookies, crackers, and canned pineapple.

 

Saturday, April 4th

  • Helping Hands for Relief and Development Clothing Drive and Origami, drop in event from 12-5pm.  The event will be held at 80 Turnpike Rd in Westborough.  Light refreshment will be available.

  •  Westborough Boosters “Good Sportsmanship and Games” Event for students in grades 1-5; 2-3:30pm (sign up required)

 

Additional Events/Initiatives:

  • First United Methodist Church – Kindness Challenge – do a kind act and record it on the Wall of Kindness; a ribbon will be placed on the lawn for each kind act. Also doing a drive for the homeless in Worcester. Looking for disposable ponchos, backpacks, socks, and plastic-coated reusable grocery bags

  • Westborough Youth and Family Services – Sock Drive (waiting on details)

  • Rhythm Dance Co. - will host a food drive (?)

  • Girl Scout Troops 30634, 20088, and 64883 each have Kindness Week plans

  • Hair We Are will offer “kindness to self” goodies and services to their clients

  • Westborough Community Education Extended Day Program are having initiatives at each school:

    • Armstrong: Collection drive for "In-A-Pinch Pantry"

    • Fales: Hosting a Book Drive for a second grade classroom within a Worcester school

    • Hastings: Creating "Kindness Cards" for members of the Senior Center

    • Mill Pond: Students will ask for and collect art supply donations for a "Paint Night" to be held at a Westborough retirement center. The event will be run by the EDP staff (location tbd).

  • Westborough Community Land Trust – will have their sign up link for the Earth Day Clean-Up “live”

  • Westborough Fire Department will do a drive using the "boot" somewhere in town; will benefit local Adam Bullen Foundation to help families with cancer with financial expenses

  • Westborough Garden Club will assemble care packages for deployed Westborough soldiers

  • Veterans Advisory Board – Will partner with WPS to conduct “Kindness Calls” to veterans at the Highlands and Willows, as well as to some residents at their homes. (does this need a day/time?)

  • Hastings Has HEART – gifts and kindness cards to Hastings neighbors, kindness lawn signs, vacation lunch boxes
